Neuschwanstein is the renovation of the old castle of Hohenschwangau beginning in 1869 by Ludwig II, King of Bavaria. Ludwig II's father had the castle of "Schwanstein" meaning 'Swan'. Neuschwanstein means "New Swan Stone Castle." Disney patterned Cinderella's Castle after Neuschwanstein. Frescos on the upper portion of the castle depicts St. George the Dragon Slayer and the Virgin Mother.
